Duncan and Millie | Tower Hill Barns | Llangollen

This lucky couple couldn’t believe their eyes when they saw the September sun shining through their bedroom window. Trevor, near Llangollen, was draped in sunshine for their joyous matrimony, bravely held outside amongst the rolling countryside of North Wales.

I met Millie early in the morning at Tower Hill Barns. She was busy dressing the room with the help of her Mother and Bridesmaids. After a relaxing morning of pampering and rehearsals for the girls, the elegantly dressed guests arrived with an excitably bouncy groom, dressed in a sharp sky blue suit, flanked by a set of equally dapper ‘Best Women’ and  a black lab called Henry, who had some very important duties to perform.

A lovely service was held outside to marry Duncan and Millie in front of their closest friends and family before the three of us took a short walk through the grounds together to take some couple shots in the sun. A few well drilled group shots followed but nobody was kept from the champagne for long. The party moved inside for Roast Beef and a set of quite brilliantly orated speeches.

The Bride and Groom had a wonderful day. They didn’t want it to be too traditional, and had asked that the photography would reflect that. The conga lines and cake chomping were a fun twist on the first dance and cake cutting pictures.

Emma and Vicky | Chester Town Hall | Cheshire

Emma and Vicky tied the knot in the salubrious Chester Town Hall on a crisp winters day in January. At the couples request, the Christmas decorations had not yet been taken down, giving the gold painted rooms a really warm and welcoming feel.

After a beautifully intimate service, I took group shots on the inner stairs before whisking the newly weds away from their guests for a quick walk around the Cathedral gardens before sitting down for a scrumptious wedding breakfast. I was even rather surprisingly invited to dine at the top table.

The Party roared on late into the evening where I managed to avoid joining in with the many party games.

Jennifer and Jason | Holiday Inn | The Wirral

The sun shone brightly on the picturesque canal quays of Ellesmere Port. I had come to take pictures of the effervescent bride as she got her hair and makeup done of the morn of her wedding. After I got what I needed, I couldn’t resist having a quick nose round the canal boats in the summer sun.

Jen and Jason got married at the beautifully quaint St Thomas, The Evangelist Church In Great Sutton. The Vicar held a really upbeat service and it was clear that everybody there was enjoying the occasion. Before being covered in confetti, the bride and groom posed for me in the doorway of the 17th Century Church.

After a leisurely stroll around the quay with Jennifer and Jason, we headed into the reception for a brilliant evening of speeches, dancing and merriment.

Andy and Anna | Edgar House | Chester

I met Andy over three years ago when he and Anna lived next door to a friend of mine in Hoole. We would occasionally escape to the pub to ‘watch the football’. When our mutual friend moved house, we lost touch but when we bumped into each other at said friends babies naming ceremony, which I was shooting for him, Andy and Anna asked me whether I would be free to photograph their wedding. They were prepared to take a chance on me and let me shoot a wedding solo for the first time. I was elated, if a little nervous.

When the day came, the weeks glorious sunshine subsided and the dark clouds overhead looked ominous. We were however lucky enough to get some pockets of sunshine at just the right times.

I spent the morning with Anna and her family before meeting Andy and his Irish contingent in the pub for brunch. After a beautifully intimate service held at Chester Registry office the wedding party split in two. Half boarded the vintage bus provided, where as the rest followed the bride and groom for a stroll through Chester’s iconic rows before meeting at Edgar House, a hidden gem tucked into the cities Roman walls.

Edgar house provided excuisite views of the river despite the rain as the guests sheltered under the tent. The wedding party were in fine form, dancing away to the live music and enjoying the afternoon tea. The evening was held at a really special place for the bride and groom. Chester Rugby Club is where they met.

Johnny and Nadia | Oh Me Oh My | Liverpool

Johnny and Nadias wedding in Liverpool was great fun and I really enjoyed shooting it alongside Sarah from Sands Photography. I met up with Sarah at Liverpool Town Hall after she had spent the morning with the bride and her bridesmaids. It was my first time in the building and I was blown away by the grandure of the state rooms.

After a really beautiful service I took the lead for the first time on the posed and group shots outside the hall. Jonny and Nadia’s wedding party were so much fun and we got the pictures done in a timely fashion despite the ever-present danger from the busy traffic of Dale Street.

The reception was just a 2 minute stroll from the Town Hall, so we took the opportunity to capture some images of the happy couple making their way down to Oh Me Oh My. The iconic ‘Three Graces” made for an impressive backdrop that screams Liverpool and Jonny and Nadia were so easy to work with. They were so obviously having the time of their lives that capturing great photos of their special day was a delight.

Inside Oh Me Oh My (Liverpool best kept secret) the Wedding Party awaited us. The venue is a wonderfully relaxed space and makes for a great spot for a City Centre wedding. After the speeches, the party went on late into the night. Sarah stayed to capture the evenings festivities.

Kate and Darren | Willington Hall | Cheshire

The first wedding of the season held in full summer sunshine was that of Kate and Darren back in May this year.  The service was held at the picturesque St Oswald’s Church in the village of Backford, outside Chester. The 14th Century, grade II listed church was a joy to shoot in and we got some fantastic pictures of the wedding party both inside and outside before the happy couple jumped into their Rolls Royce, set to whisk them away to their reception.

The reception was held at the Victorian hotel, Willington Hall near Tarporley. The beaming sunshine transformed this grand building and seventeen acre gardens into a resplendent backdrop for Kate and Darrens’s big day.

After a wonderfully relaxing and slow paced afternoon in the sunshine, the wedding party retired to the splendidly white reception room for some barn storming speeches, and an excellent roast poussin (one of the perks of the job). The younger members amongst Kate and Darren’s guests led the raucous dancing before the newly weds hit the dance floor for their first slow dance together as man and wife.

Jacqueline and John | Ness Gardens | Wirral

Living in Chester City Centre really seems handy when you have a job that is less than a 5 min walk from your house. Ideally set in the cozy little Ebenezer Baptist Church, hidden in-between Newtown and Hoole, John and Jacquelin made their solum vows in front of a congregation of friends and family. The service was held by known preachers within the Baptist circuit, resulting in a really personal yet serious and spiritual ceremony.

As a Wirral born lad, I am familiar with the venue for the reception, Ness Gardens. Although I must admit, it has been a fair few years since i’ve been – I think the last time, I was a moody teenager, who would rather have been sat in a dark corner working on my PS3 FIFA team than being dragged around a beautiful, yet extremely hilly garden by my parents and other distant relatives.

However, now a grown-up (of sorts), when asked to assist Stuart (SandS Photography) with Jacquelin and John’s wedding last spring, I jumped at the chance to work in such a fabulous setting and was really looking forward to honing my skills under such a magnificent spring-time backdrop.

We we’re lucky with the weather. The ominous dark clouds cleared, leaving behind fabulous views of the River Dee and North Wales. After some group shot’s, hastily taken in the springtime chill, the Bride and Groom had a stroll through the gardens, in the casual hunt for snowdrops. We found one… only one, but we found it.

Sophie and Steven | Knowsley Hall | Liverpool

Sophie and Steven picked an incredible venue to host their wedding last Spring. Both the service and the reception were held at this fabulously grand and historic hall. It was my first time in Knowsley and I was half expecting to see a runaway Lion stroll into the wedding. Don’t worry, my worries were unfounded so you are safe to scroll down without having to see feeding time at the safari.

This couple were great fun to work with. Sophie didn’t have an ounce of ‘Bridezilla’ in her and Steven was as chilled as they come. This made for some great posed shots in the impressive grounds of the Hall under a really golden sunset.

As always with my pictures, many of the days images are documentary style and the album flows nicely throughout the day, culminating in the first dance which was a choreographed dance of the timeless hit ‘jump on it’.

Andrea and David | Mitton Hall | Lancashire

This wedding was my first experience of working alongside my Brother and photography guru Stuart from Sands Photography. Stuart took the lead and took all of the posed pictures on this occasion whilst I was tasked with capturing more natural and candid style images of the happy couple and their guests.

Located up in the rolling hills of Lancashire, Mitton Hall is a beautiful venue, blessed with a raised view of the surrounding countryside. We were lucky to have a dry day, as much of the week had been a wash out and despite the winter chill in the air we were able to get some great pictures together. Below are some of the images that I captured on the day.

Sadly, the celebrations were cut short for Andrea and David as the groom was rushed off to hospital moments after his speech. He had only just been released after undergoing a serious operation and was put straight back under the knife. Fortunately he recovered well and all of his friends and family met up again to finish off the party in style. Stuart as well as others like the DJ and registrar offered their services for free to ensure that Andrea and David got the special day they had planned for.
